Crusader Knight Sugar Loaf Helmet

Straight from the crusades, House of Warfare brings you the knightly crusader helmet, popularly known as the sugar loaf helm. Most emblematic of the 14th-century crusader equipment, this sugar loaf helmet offered significant protection against spear and sword blows, usually aimed at the most prominent knights wearing it. It all started with the addition of the face plate to the iron hat that protected the knights from any attack aimed at their face, or worse, their forehead. Even with the evolution of the backplate, the main point of concern was the flat top. It was not before the dawn of the 13th century that the helmets adopted the conical top and a slenderer structure, which proved more effective against spear and sword blows charged from above. This helmet is handmade from 18 gauge mild steel and is, therefore, ideal for knightly evocation and medieval fair costume. It is lined with padding underneath to make it a comfortable experience when worn.
